A large variety of potato products produced in a single plant means that there is opportunity to maximize yield and quality by sorting the best potato to the right process. This requires automatic sizing, defect detection and grading of individual potatoes at high production rates.


A demonstration system using the SICK IVC3D yielded excellent results for both sizing and identifying defects that affect product yield and quality. Follow on work will include multiple product yield projections resulting in an optimal use decision for automatic sorting in production.
